Complementary Therapies

A wide range of Complementary Therapies are provided to help NECA clients deal with the changes they will face as well as providing relief from symptoms of withdrawal, poor health and stress.

Available Therapies include:

  • Aromatherapy uses essential oils to treat a range of psychological and physiological ailments. The most common application of essential oils is through massage which gives the clients benefits from the oils and from the release of tension and muscle pain.
  • Reflexology is a natural therapy where systems and different parts of the body can be treated by palpating reflexes in the feet. This therapy has effects on the blood and lymphatic circulation and the nervous system, revitalising and de-stressing the body so that the natural healing mechanism may be initiated.
  • Indian Head Massage is an old Indian tradition which improves circulation and detoxification by de-stressing the whole body. The treatment relieves stress and tension from the upper shoulders, head and neck that helps with conditions such as insomnia and headaches.
  • Electro-stimulation Therapy (EST) can help reduce withdrawal symptoms and drug-seeking behaviour. The treatment helps alleviate stress, tension, and aggressive behaviour, underlying health problems associated with substance misuse and improves sleep patterns. The treatment consists of small painless electrical impulses being passed through the body via electrodes. The pulses are applied over specific acupuncture points, which stimulate the body's natural mechanism for dealing with stress/pain.

The following projects offer a range of treatment options including Aromatherapy massage, Reflexology and Indian head massage. Once a client is referred for therapy they will be offered an appointment to complete a health assessment, following the assessment stage clients are then offered 6 sessions.
