The Drug Treatment and Testing Order and Drug Rehabilitation Requirement are sentences imposed by the courts for offenders who have committed crimes relating to problematic drug use. The aims of the sentences are to break the link between drugs and crime and guide the offender through treatment.

The DTTO/DRR Project in Newcastle consists of one full time senior worker, one full time worker and a part time Complementary Therapist. The current caseload of clients is 50. NECA's DTTO/DRR staff work in a tri-partnership with the Probation Service and Newcastle and North Tyneside Drug and Alcohol Team to provide a holistic package of care for the clients.

Through NECA the DTTO/DRR clients have access to a range of therapeutic interventions and support to help them through their life changes. Such interventions available include:

A 15 week Rolling Programme which addresses various social skills and issues such as homelessness, benefit advice, health awareness and advice, literacy and numeracy skills, employment, training parenting skills and relapse prevention.

  • A specific Women's Group offering activities relating to Women.
  • Anger Management Course
  • Self Confidence Course
  • Healthy Cooking Sessions including budgeting
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Housing support and advice
  • 1-1 structured support with the option of structured counselling from Newcastle Core Services.
  • Outdoor visits/activities
  • Service User Forum
