To celebrate Carer’s Week which took place 13th – 19th June, the Sunderland Family service hosted a trip to Whitby on the 14th for its group members. Whitby was chosen by the group because of its beauty, charm, and of course its fish and chips.
The group are all affected by someone’s alcohol or drug use which at times leaves them feeling very isolated. Attending the group has helped them to form strong bonds and they have become very supportive of each other outside of the group.
The weather was perfect for our trip; we had sunshine and blue skies all day. On the way to Whitby there was a constant sound of laughter and cheer which set the tone for a great day. A fish and chips lunch was enjoyed by all in between shopping and sight seeing. The group all said the day was just what they had needed and that it had done them the world of good to forget about their problems for the day.
