Overdose Workshops – North Tyneside March 25, 2011

Davy Allan (Project Worker) and Joanne Griffiths (Harm Reduction Nurse) held a series of Overdose Workshops at ‘The Base’ in Whitley Bay and Turning Point.

Northumbria Police Drugs Co-ordinator Dave Nicholson discussed what happened when 999 was called, and answered many questions, removing many myths about what happens if there is an overdose situation.  Joanne discussed CPR, and participants had a chance to practice on a dummy.  Davy provided information about the harm reduction service and the session ended in an open discussion.

DVD’s were provided for the clients and staff demonstrating the recovering position and discussing issues such as tolerance and the dangers of mixing drugs.

Our aim is to help keep the clients, carers and their community safer by empowering them with the knowledge to deal with emergency situations.

Here are some comments and feedback from clients:

“It refreshed the knowledge I had, and answered a few questions that I was not sure about”

“I found it very easy to understand”

“When I have used the service in the past everyone was friendly and helpful”

“I understand it from a police point of view now”

“I have learnt new skills”

If you feel that this kind of workshop would be useful for your patients/service users or you simply want more information on our service, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to discuss your needs further.
