Sunderland NECA, in partnership with NERAF launched ‘Connected Recovery’ on Monday 14th November 2011. The day was a huge success and well attended by both clients and partnership agency staff. Connected Recovery was officially opened by Julie Daneshyar – Deputy Regional Manager – NTA, guest speakers included Ben Seale and 3 people in recovery that kindly shared their experience with everyone and explain what connected recovery will mean for them. One speaker commented:
“Being an alcoholic is not a nice place to be … My addiction has taken me to places that I don’t want to go again… But now I’ve got my self-esteem back and I’m really interested in keeping up my self-improvement”.
As part of Connected Recovery NECA service users will be offered additional support at every stage of their treatment and recovery journey from a NERAF recovery coach. The aim of connected recovery is to improve engagement and offer individuals additional support in line with the treatment they receive from NECA. Connected Recovery will offer service users:-
* Extra support throughout your recovery journey for as long as they need it
* Support from someone who is also in recovery
* Access to support groups 7 days a week
* Help to get back on track if you are experiencing difficulties
* Access to the Connected Recovery centre
* Access to Woman only service and recovery activities
In addition to the recovery coaches, ‘Connected Recovery’ also launched its new recovery centre in John Street. The Connected Recovery Centre will provide activities and courses for its members to access on a daily basis to help support them in their recovery journey. Courses already available to members include confidence building, employability, well being groups, recovery programmes and much more. The centre will not only provide its activities in the centre but it will also promote springboard activities that members will be able to access in their own communities. Springboard activities currently running are ‘B Active ‘N’ B Fit’ and TWAMS (Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums).
