Structured counselling is available to adults over the age of 18 living in the Newcastle area who are experiencing problems relating to their use of drugs or alcohol. Counselling is also available to people who are affected by someone else's use of drugs or alcohol.
Structured counselling involves an initial assessment, goal setting, care planning and regular reviews. It can help people look at problems they may be experiencing in their life, which may lead to or be caused by use of drugs or alcohol. It can help people to understand more clearly what is happening in their life now and how they would like things to be. It can help people to look at strategies to cope with the difficulties or changes and to assist in achieving their goals.
Counsellors work from a person centred framework, but have skills in other areas, such as Motivational Interviewing or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
NECA has a strict confidentiality policy covering any information shared with counsellors.
