Structured Day Care Service

The Structured Daycare Team was launched in February 2006. It is responsible for providing intensive community based support, treatment and rehabilitation. The programme of defined activities and group work includes: 

13 Week Rolling Programme – facilitated by a member of relevant agencies such as Welfare Rights, CAB, Choosing Health (PCT), GUM clinic, Healthworks, Heartstart, Trading Standards, Local Authority Housing, Supported Housing (New Leaf, Carr Gomm), Addaction. It focuses on health and wellbeing issues and also relapse prevention.

Sports – Held at various local leisure venues providing a wide range of individual / group activities to suit the needs of the clients, including: badminton, squash, table tennis, football, gym, basketball / netball. The aim is to introduce clients into a constructive healthier lifestyle. This leads to improved fitness levels, raised confidence and increased independence.

Art Group- Various therapeutic art activities provided at a local Art studio including: sculpting, pottery, various painting techniques, use of computers and photography.

Outdoor Activities- Planned for Spring / Summer, to include walks, visits to places of local interest (museums). This will be based on service user subscription.

Relaxation – Providing techniques for stress reduction in relaxing environment.

Afternoon Drop in – Based at Cornerstones Project, providing a informal atmosphere with social activities including pool, darts tournaments, various board games, informal chats and advice, access to internet, telephones.

Computer Club- Introduction to computers and opportunity to improve computer skills - limited places.

12 Week Healthy Eating Group – cookery, walking, health and fitness care plans, with the options of aftercare and cycling.

Harm Reduction / Minimisation – Focuses on Harm Minimisation techniques such as blood bourne viruses safer injecting, Methadone overdose information on needle exchange. This is facilitated by a DAS nurse. Also provided is the opportunity for one to one sessions which can be an arranged appointment or on a drop in basis.

A further timetable is in development, providing further activities to encourage service users to access community based venues without the supervision of Structured Daycare to promote empowerment confidence and independence.

The Structured Day Care program is constantly evolving and developing through evaluation, service user consultation and established links between partner organisations.

This project welcomes male and female clients aged 19 years and over, involved in substance misuse . Clients can refer themselves, or be referred by any agency involved in their treatment.
