The Birtley area of Gateshead is a hard to reach area in the far west of the Gateshead Borough. It has been identified as an area of need, due to the area being isolated to town centre services, and the number of people resident in Birtley who require Drug and Alcohol services. The aims of the Community Development project in Britley are:
Research the range of agencies, groups and resources throughout the Birtley area. Support community groups and networks by disseminating accurate information. To work closely with the outreach counsellor to ensure that the service is accessible and responsive to local needs. Ensure the views of the community is represented at all stages of planning and implementation Support resident and community groups and partnerships which seek to develop activities to tackle substance misuse. Provide or help groups to access training which with support a community response to substance misuse.
To provide an accessible service.
