International overdose awareness day was celebrated on August 31st this year. A display was created in reception that included instructions and tips on how to avoid an overdose as well as how to perform CPR. Written information was made available for clients to take away and staff were available to offer support to clients who had been affected by overdose.
We also offered clients a video that could be sent via Bluetooth to their mobile phone, enabling them to quickly have access to emergency information and possibly saving a person’s life.
In the display we also provided a ‘remembrance bubble’ where clients could write messages or just remember their relatives, friends or anyone they have known who has sadly died of an overdose. Clients thought this was a good idea, one stating “if the bubble gets filled up hopefully it will make people realise just how many people die by overdosing and they will be more careful”.
